PoliticsMEPs adopted legislation to reinforce the rights of posted workers and also debated the future of Europe and voted on their position on the EU's long-term budget. Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius, paid a visit to Stockholm on the invitation of Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Margot Wallström, on 26 May where he took part in the Baltic Day, a cultural event organised by the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian communities in Sweden, to mark the centenary of their states’ independence. President Dalia Grybauskaitė signed an agreement on Lithuania’s accession to the Convention on the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Following its ratification by the Seimas, Lithuania will officially become the 36th member of the OECD. President of France Emmanuel Macron and Secretary-General of the OECD Ángel Gurría who attended the ceremony congratulated Lithuania on the accession to the OECD. President Dalia Grybauskaitė is leaving for Paris where she will sign an agreement on Lithuania’s accession to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Convention. Lithuania will officially become the 36th member of the organization that unites the strongest and the most advanced economies of the world. New rules on posted workers could lead to equal pay for equal work, if adopted during the May plenary. MEPs also discuss the Future of EU with Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel. Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has met with Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China Han Changfu and has discussed further cooperation in the field of foreign trade in agricultural and food products. On Wednesday, the European Commission (EC) issued its regular country-specific recommendations, including for Lithuania, on strengthening the economy. The recommendations for Lithuania cover actions for 2018-2019 in the fields of taxation and pensions, education, health and social protection and increased productivity. From the Warsaw Summit NATO has done a lot to rebuild deterrence and security at the borders of the Eastern Alliance, but we must ensure the continuation of initiated security initiatives, "said Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis today, on May 24, after the meeting with Latvian and Estonian Defence Ministers Raimonds Bergmanis and Jüri Luiku in Klaipėda. Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has met with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission at the conclusion of its visit to Lithuania. On May 24 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis, Minister of Defence of Latvia Jüri Luiku and Minister of Defence of Estonia Raimonds Bergmanis will meet at the Lithuanian Navy Headquarters in Klaipėda. |
