The Intergovernmental Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons was signed at a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and the Brazilian Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira on 26 September in New York, U.S.A. The meeting was organized at the margins of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly, which was attended by Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.

On 25 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius participated in the opening of the high-level General Debate of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly. The head of Lithuania‘s diplomacy said that a transparent and effective United Nations peacekeeping, respect for human rights, peaceful conflict resolution and multilateralism based on international law remained priority issues for Lithuania in the United Nations.

The Seimas adopted amendments to Article 22 of the Law on the Provision of Information to the Public to establish that producers and/or disseminators of public information and/or their participants, when announcing the news about suicides or suicide attempts, may not publish the motives, means and methods of committing suicides or suicide attempts, present suicide as a proper way of resolving any problem or as a natural daily reality, romanticise suicides, and show the process of committing suicide or the person who attempts or has committed suicide. The information on suicides or suicide attempts must contain a reference to the available emotional or psychological assistance and the self-support groups for the close ones of suicide victims.
