The Prime Minister welcomed the excellent relations between Lithuania and France, pointing out the need for further deepening the strategic partnership.
“We appreciate France’s role in strengthening the security of Lithuania and the entire Baltic region. We appreciate the contribution of your troops to NATO’s Forward Presence in our country. Thank you for the new page in the history of Lithuania-French relations. I wish success to you personally and to your successor”, said Saulius Skvernelis.
The Prime Minister thanked France for its attention and events dedicated to the centennial anniversary of the restoration of the state of Lithuania. This has strengthened the mutual understanding and cultural cooperation between the countries. The Prime Minister expressed interest in taking further the political dialogue. French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit Lithuania in the near future.
The interlocutors noted the growing economic cooperation and the potential for further development of the bilateral trade, investment and tourism. With a view to stepping up competition in retail trade, the Head of Government had signed a letter for French retail chains inviting them to invest in Lithuania. Lithuania would welcome the arrival of the Air France in the Lithuanian market.
H.E. Jéantaud presented his letters of credence to the President on 11 May 2015. His successor Claire Lignieres is expected to come to Lithuania on 26 September.
