Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will meet political group leaders on Tuesday evening to discuss the use of personal data, ahead of GDPR rules coming into force on Friday.

The Seimas adopted amendments to the Law on Higher Education and Research which aim at bringing real opportunities for higher education institutions to continue their operation in Lithuania after being forced to close down in the countries of origin due to political reasons. A total of 91 Members of the Seimas voted in favour of the new provisions, with none against and 2 abstentions.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė had a bilateral meeting with President Aleksandar Vučić of the Republic of Serbia after the EU-Western Balkans summit held in Bulgaria. At the meeting, the Presidents discussed Serbia’s EU accession negotiations, cooperation between Serbia and NATO, bilateral business relations and Lithuanian investment protection in Serbia.

On 16 May in Washington,D.C., the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, together with the Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs and Estonian Foreign Minister Sven Mikser, met with the U.S. President's National Security Adviser John Bolton.

Budget MEPs approved on Wednesday EUSF aid worth €104.2 million to support reconstruction in Greece, Spain, France and Portugal, hit by natural disasters in 2017.

On 15 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srđan Darmanović, who is visiting Lithuania. The Foreign Ministers discussed possibilities for strengthening bilateral cooperation, aspirations of Montenegro's EU membership, the situation in the Western Balkans, important issues of regional security and cooperation.

The Seimas adopted a Resolution approving the proposal to hold a joint military exercise Saber Strike 2018 („Kardo kirtis 2018“) of the Republic of Lithuania and military units of other countries on the territory of Lithuania on 3–15 June 2018, involving no more than 6600 international troops and civil service personnel assigned to military duty at the same time.

Protecting the EU armed forces against cyber attacks, improving responses to natural disasters, and preparing for changes to data protection rules are all on Parliament’s agenda this week.
