Saulius Skvernelis, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, pointed out that the package of six structural reforms covering the areas of taxation, pensions, the informal economy, education, health and innovations, happens to well reflect the measures for the implementation of these recommendations.
“The Government’s structural reforms fully correspond with the European Commission’s recommendations. We are happy to have properly chosen and modeled reforms in the fields of pensions and taxes that are responsive to both the current situation and future challenges. We hope that the European Commission’s recommendations will also be an important indicator for the Seimas to support these draft laws”, said Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis.
The reform package provides for systemic changes that are an absolute must with a view to keeping the labour market competitive, ensuring an adequate wage growth and a decent retirement pension. The EC’s recommendations focus on the same areas.
The package covering the six structural reforms proposed by the Government is seen by independent experts of the International Monetary Fund that has completed the mission this week in Lithuania as a “step in the right direction”. The reform package consists of 46 legislative amendments.
