President Gitanas Nausėda together with other members of the European Council issued a joint statement on Russia’s ongoing illegal annexation of Ukrainian territories.

On September 28 Vice Minister of National Defence Vilius Semeška took part in an extraordinary meeting of national armament directors held in Brussels under the auspices of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group to address immediate and long-term assistance to Ukraine. The meeting was also attended by Vice Minister of Defence of Ukraine Volodymyr Havrylov, representatives of NATO allies, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Serbia, Switzerland, and other countries.

We wanted to present together the eighth package of sanctions. Last week, Russia has escalated the invasion of Ukraine to a new level. The sham referenda organised in the territories that Russia occupied are an illegal attempt to grab land and to change international borders by force. The mobilisation and Putin's threat to use nuclear weapons are further steps on the escalation path.

On Tuesday, President Gitanas Nausėda received letters of credence from Ambassador María Nieves Blanco Díaz of Spain, Ambassador Séadhna MacHugh of Ireland, and Ambassador Rik van Droogenbroeck of Belgium.

On September 26, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Ambassador Neilas Tankevičius, presented his Letters of Credence to Director-General Fernando Arias.

On 19 September, the Ambassador of Lithuania Ramūnas Davidonis presented his letters of credence to the President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

On September 20-21 Vice Minister of National Defence Vilius Semeška attended DX Korea 2022 defence industry exposition and had a meeting with Vice Defense Minister Shin Beomchul of the Republic of Korea. The officials discussed opportunities for a government-level contract and acquisition of weaponry, as well as bilateral cooperation in the area of defence industry. Vice Minister V. Semeška encouraged South Korean defence industry companies to invest in Lithuania.

On 20 September 2022, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. The meeting in Washington D.C. focussed on comprehensive support to Ukraine, sanctions against Russia, strengthening the NATO’s Eastern flank, and strategic partnership between Lithuania and the US.

President Gitanas Nausėda continues his participation in the United Nations General Assembly Session in New York. On Wednesday, the leaders of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia met with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres in what has become a traditional meeting.

On 16 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Zbigniew Rau, who is visiting Vilnius, and discussed regional security, support for Ukraine, as well as sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
