In his message of congratulations, the President wrote that Lithuania and Estonia are bound by strong historical ties, emphasizing that freedom is the most precious of all values, and the events of this past year have once again demonstrated how fragile it is.
“The unity of the Baltic States is of utmost importance today, at this extremely difficult time, when Ukraine is fighting for its future and the future of all Europe. As members of the European Union and allies in NATO we must help Ukraine in every possible way, focusing first and foremost on increased military assistance as well as political, economic, financial, and humanitarian aid. We must work together for Ukraine to become a full member of NATO,” the President wrote.
Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that unity has led to important decisions at the NATO Summit in Madrid and expressed his belief that yet another strong step forward will be made this year in Vilnius to ensure their further implementation, especially in forward defense, the development of regional plans and defense investments.
The President underlined the importance of collaborative work between Lithuania and Estonia at the EU and Nordic-Baltic levels, highlighting the need to deliver energy and transport infrastructure projects in the Baltic States as quickly as possible.
Gitanas Nausėda wished the people of Estonia peace, unity and lasting prosperity.
