On 25 September in Vilnius, the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Rolandas Kriščiūnas and the German Ambassador to Lithuania Wolfgang Wiethoff opened a conference “Renewable Energy: untapped potential and the future” of the Lithuanian-German Forum. The Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister underlined Lithuania’s aim to create a well-balanced energy resource infrastructure, where renewable energy sources together with other Lithuanian energy sources would allow for diversification of energy production and supply in the country, thus gaining energy independence.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė will be attending the general debate of 68th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York. This year debates will be held under the theme "The Post-2015 Development Agenda: Setting the Stage".

President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with the Prime Minister of Romania, Victor Ponta, who is currently on a visit to Lithuania. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in the European Union, energy security and Eastern Partnership issues, as well as bilateral relations. This is the first visit by a Romanian prime minister to Lithuania over the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Current Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian-democratic CDU/CSU party swept to victory in the September 22 general election, winning 41.5 per cent of the vote.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych. During their meeting, the Presidents discussed preparations for the Vilnius Summit and as well as prerequisites for signing an Association Agreement, including its Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, between the EU and Ukraine.

Yesterday Russia and Belarus started joined military exercise "Zapad 2013". The military exercise raised concerns amongst neighbouring countries a couple of months ago.

- We wish all the best for Lithuania, which is leading the EU, that during the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius we could achieve a success. We know that there won't be a full success, because we could cherish full success if the all four states: Ukraine, Moldavia, Georgia and Armenia, would sign an association agreement – stated Radosław Sikorski during an interview, which he gave to the Polish Radio.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė accepted letters of credence from Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Lithuania Murad Yazberdyev.

On 17-19 September 2013, an international conference "Eastern Partnership law enforcement cooperation: way forward" is going to be held in Vilnius. This conference is organized by the Lithuanian police, European Police College (hereafter CEPOL), other states of the European Union (hereafter EU) and Eastern Partnership countries.
