Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Sikorski arrived to Vilnius on 27th November to take part in Vilnius summit. On 28th November in the afternoon R. Sikorski met with Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius. On the same day in the morning Polish minister met with the leader of Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (EAPL), Member of the European Parliament V. Tomaševski. Matters concerning the Eastern Partnership Summit were raised during the meeting; also bilateral relationship between Poland and Lithuania was discussed. To add, safety issues in this part of Europe and other problems were talked over.
Of course, the subject of the situation and rights of the Polish minority in Lithuania could not be omitted during the meeting. It was discussed in detail. Minister R. Sikorski emphasized once again that the policy of Poland regarding the protection of the Polish minority rights is inalterable. The Minister also emphasized that Poland will be strongly soliciting for the Polish minority to be able to fully enjoy the rights guaranteed by both the international law and the Polish-Lithuanian treaty.
The Polish Minister R. Sikorski congratulated Poles in Lithuania and EAPL for successes and strong position which Polish community holds in Lithuania. He also stressed that Poles from all over the world should follow the example of perfect self-organization and determination in fighting for their rights by Poles in Lithuania.
Valdemar Tomaševski thanked Minister R. Sikorski for the support often given to the Polish minority and for the 45 minutes meeting itself.
Jaroslaw Czubiński, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Lithuania as well as Maria Ślebioda, Counsellor, Head of the Political - Economic section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland to Lithuania, also took part in the meeting.
