Vydas Gedvilas as speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas and Vytautas Gapšys as vice-speaker have resigned on this Thursday. They represent the ruling Labour Party. Loreta Graužinienė member of the Labour Party was nominated to replace Vydas Gedvilas.

European Parliament Committee Chairs will meet the EU College of Commissioners on Wednesday evening to agree on legislative and political priorities for 2014, the last year of this parliamentary term. Members and Commissioners are also expected to discuss issues upon which work could be finalised by the April 2014 plenary session.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with the Prime Minister of Moldova, Iurie Leancă. The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming Vilnius Summit to be held in November, as well as Moldova's progress in implementing reforms. An EU association agreement is expected to be initialed with Moldova at the summit.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė delivered a speech at the general debate "The Post-2015 Development Agenda" during the 68th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. During her working visit in New York, President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented state decorations to former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and artist Michael Philip Davis. The decorations were awarded on the occasion of the Lithuanian State Day, but H. Clinton and M. Davis could not collect them during the awards ceremony on 6 July.
