The new Chairman was elected unanimously by secret ballot last Thursday, May 30, 2019. In the newly-published May-December 2019 issue of the Lithuanian university ratings magazine, "Reitingai," Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) placed 2nd of 11 Lithuanian universities in student satisfaction and pride in their University. MRU was 2nd only to Vilnius University (VU). Earlier this month, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) honorary members’ community was joined by a distinguished scientist, biomedical engineer, Lund University’s (Sweden) Professor Leif Sörnmo. Prof Sörnmo was awarded KTU Honorary Doctorate for the longstanding partnership in research and the contribution to the development of young scientists in the field of biomedical engineering, for the merits to the University and substantial scientific achievements. The 13th international conference “Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques”2019-05-31, 18:58The 13th international scientific conference “Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques” (MBMST 2019) was successfully held on 16-17 of May 2019 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The conference could be called traditional because it is organized since 1991 (recently – every 3 years). The conference is one of the biggest civil engineering scientific events in Baltic region countries. This year the conference was organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) together with national and international partners: International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (Lithuanian group), European Council of Civil Engineers, Lithuanian Association of Civil Engineers, Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Association of European Civil Engineering Faculties, and European Civil Engineering Education and Training Association. More than 200 scientists from 17 different countries took part in the recent conference. Totally 147 oral and poster presentations were delivered during the event. The majority of foreign participants came from Poland, Latvia, the Czech Republic and Germany. VU Business School Students’ Achievements in an International Virtual Teams Project2019-05-30, 18:31In the spring semester, the students of the International Business study programme at Vilnius University Business School were involved in the Virtual Business Professional project as part of the Intercultural Communication and Management course delivered in English. Lithuania have created biodegradable plastic, which decays in a compost bin in a couple of years. Bioplastic created at KTU is transparent and all the materials in its composition are suitable for contact with food. Team of researchers at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Lithuania have created a mobile application, which helps recognise early symptoms of a rare Huntington’s disease. Designed in cooperation with physicians and Huntington Disease Association, the app provides its user with a series of tests in order to check the presence of the symptoms. If the probability of symptoms is detected, the user is informed and encouraged to contact medical professionals for further advice. Innovation exhibition and competition Technorama 2019: the record prize fund and 60 future-shaping inventions2019-05-20, 16:40Technorama was special in 2019 –not only it celebrated the 18th birthday but also had the record high prize fund of more than 12.000 EUR. More than 60 inventions by 110 young researchers and creators were showcased at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Santaka Valley on May 9.
