Seven years ago, Odeta Brigaityte, then still a student of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), began to manage a team of fifty men at a fertilisers manufacturer plant. Now Odeta is a Technology Transfer Project Manager (TTPM) at KTU National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre. She is responsible for ensuring smooth mutual cooperation between science and business, commercialisation of the latest innovations developed at the University.

Although nanowires are answering the demands of the market for innovative, smaller, flexible electronic devices by enabling electronic circuits on the molecular scale, assembly of nanowires into functional materials remains a problem. Group of researchers from Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Lithuania are offering a novel solution for high-yield nanowire production from zinc oxide – cheaper and environmentally friendlier material, compared to the rare earth elements such as indium, arsenic or gallium often used in electronics production.

From now on everybody interested can see and “walk” in the laboratories, study rooms and offices to have a peek inside the University life.

Renewable energy is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world. Technological advancement in the field progresses rapidly, and so have to the professionals working in the sector. Prices for heat and electricity, renovation, use of renewable energy resources – these are only a few areas of great interest, but there are too few professionals to work with it. “It is obvious that the job market needs more professionals working with energetics of buildings. We see that most of the third year students get a job related to the area of their studies after their internships,” says Tomas Kropas, graduate from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, as he shares his insights about the prospects and guaranteed job offers in the field of energetics of buildings.

Admission to master’s study programmes at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is continuing. The third, final stage of admissions is open to all EU nationals; state-funded study places are still available.

Commenting on the first stage of admissions results to MRU Bachelor's Degree programmes, Mykolas Romeris University Rector Prof. Inga Žalėnienė said it's still too early to draw any conclusions. However, she said that today there is a 40% increase in the number of international students admitted to Bachelor's Degree programmes.

A new biotechnological invention promises to give humans unprecedented control over nature. So-called gene drives change the probability with which genes are transmitted from generation to generation. Normally, when organisms reproduce, each gene of the two parent organisms has a roughly 50% chance of passing on to the next generation. By artificially increasing this probability to close to 100%, gene drives ensure that the frequency of specific genes in a target species increases over time.
