The EU multiannual plan for managing Baltic Sea cod, sprat and herring stocks was approved in plenary on Thursday. This is the first new Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) regional plan that takes account of interactions between species. It aims to ensure the sustainability of fisheries and offer fishermen better economic conditions in the long run. Parliament and Council negotiators reached an informal agreement on it in March.

First of all, it is completely impossible to describe my Fulbright experience in few pages or in hundreds of pages. The reason is simple. Imagine that you have never tasted chocolate. You can read a bunch of books about chocolate, know the recipe and the smell of it, write a dissertation about it, but if you have never tried it, you will never know what actually chocolate is. The international committee of experts has awarded the Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Informatics Engineering study programme the Euro-Inf Quality Label. In their report the experts, who audited the programme this spring, underlined the exceptionally high qualifications of the teachers and the excellent study infrastructure.

The team from Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) has won the finals of European BEST Engineering Competition (EBEC), which is being organised by the Board of European Students of Technology (BEST) every year. Lithuanian team, which won at the Team Design category, were representing the Baltic region.

On 15-16 September the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas together with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Vilnius and the Polish Institute in Vilnius are organizing a conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Poland and Lithuania “The dynamics of Polish-Lithuanian relations.”

For the best ideas for Europe's future, why not ask the next generation? In May 7,000 young Europeans gathered in Strasbourg for the second European Youth Event (EYE) during which they discussed how to best tackle the many challenges facing Europe. Fifty of the best ideas have been collected in a report, which was presented to Parliament on 6 September. Some of the ideas will be forwarded to parliamentary committees, which starting 11 October will discuss them with the young people involved.

The Nordplus programmes are hosting a common contact seminar on Sunday 20th – Tuesday 22nd November 2016. All potential applicants to Nordplus within the entire field of education and lifelong learning are invited to apply to participate in the seminar.

At the contact seminar future applicants will have the opportunity to find partner institutions from the other Nordic and Baltic countries for future projects and applications.

The seminar seeks to stimulate initiatives within three themes: integration of refugees and immigrants, Nordic languages and teacher education. However the seminar also welcomes other ideas and topics found relevant by the individual institutions.
