EducationSeeking to increase student awareness and participation in political life, to nurture tolerance and human rights and to analyze global problems, the United Nations Student Club was founded several years ago at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania, eventually evolving into the Lithuanian United Nations Youth Association, LUNYA. This summer the association was recognized as an official member of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) and was invited to implement joint projects with Columbia University in New York, USA. Budget Committee MEPs reversed all the cuts proposed by the Council to the draft 2017 EU budget to meet the needs of the migration crisis and slow economic growth, in a vote on Wednesday. They also boosted funding to fight youth unemployment and increased spending on research and infrastructure projects. The full plenary will vote on 26 October on a proposed budget amounting to €161.8bn in commitments, €4.13bn more than the original Commission proposal. 17-24 of September 2016 Faculty of Economics organized the second exchange project with the Polessky State University (Pinsk, Belarus). This year the exchange topics were international business and finance. 10 students and 2 teachers from Polessky State University visited VIKO. The lecture, which attracted students from Germany, France, Sweden, Lithuania and other EU, and non-EU countries, was co-organised by Renata Korsakienė, Assoc. The opening address was given by Manuela Tvaronavičienė, Professor of Business Management Faculty and Expert of NATO for project “Energy security: Cultural Change” (2015-2016). “Fair use” safeguards to prevent mobile phone users from taking unfair advantage of EU rules on “roaming” charges will be debated in the Industry Committee on Monday 26 September. Delegation from Japan, which consisted of members of Japanese Government and 14 students from various universities visited Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) this week. The guests from Japan were very interested into study and research organising at KTU, and paid great attention to the entrepreneurship development among students. The Baltic-German University Liaison Office has announced project competition 2017. The project competition offers support to the universities and the research institutions of the Baltic states in cooperation with a partner institution from Germany. Supported will be projects in any field of science with the financial support up to 5 000 EUR. |
