Webpage of one of the most prestigious scientific journals in the world, Nature, recently published an article “A Single-cell Atlas of the Airway Epithelium Reveals the CFTR-rich Pulmonary Ionocyte”. It centres around the discovery of a new type of cell – pulmonary ionocyte. Dr. Lindsey Plasschaert and Vilnius University (VU) Life Sciences Centre doctorate student Rapolas Žilionis are first authors on this paper.

Lithuanian Government has permitted Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) to sell 5 more unused real estate objects in Kaunas city centre. The buildings, which belong to the State and are being held in trust by the University, will be sold in public auctions. The first of the auctions is planned in October 2018. The funds will be invested into improving study infrastructure.

Last Thursday the results of the 1st stage of the general admissions to Lithuanian universities and colleges have been announced. As in previous years, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is the second-most desired study institution in Lithuania among the prospective students. 1,802 applicants have indicated a KTU study programme as their first priority; this is the second result in Lithuania, after Vilnius University.

July 28, the documentary “Kaunas. The City of Sugihara and Japan” created by the Centre for Asian Studies will be introduced for Japanese society. The Japan Premiere will be taking place on July 28, 13:00 in Gifu City Library. On the same evening, the movie will be shown at Yaotsu Town (which has a museum dedicated for Č. Sugihara). During the screenings, Dr Aurelijus Zykas, one of the creators of the movie, will participate. These screenings are a part of the festival “Lithuania NOW” which is organized for the first time by Gifu Prefecture and aims to introduce Lithuania.
