Thousands of state-funded places have been left vacant at higher schools in Lithuania after they failed to attract young people to study and become engineers and technologists.

“I would choose chemistry again, it is close to me both in practical and philosophical way”, says the new Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Rector, chemist, professor Eugenijus Valatka. In a candid interview he talks about books and music, his dream travel destinations and his first impressions on KTU as a student.

Like every year, on September 1st, Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) invites the entire university community – students, lecturers, and employees – to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year together. This time, the celebrations of September 1st will begin with the Freshman Pledge and welcoming speeches on 11.30 a.m. at the courtyard of the Historical Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuania in Kaunas (Vilniaus g. 33).

On Monday, 27 August Welcome Week for the new international students coming to Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) starts. A full week of events, ranging from introductory lectures to campus and city tours awaits everyone joining KTU community. This year’s guest speaker is Viktoras Diawara, famous Lithuanian producer and musician.

July 24th, 2018, Lithuania's Ministry of Education and Science registered a draft project in the Seimas, "Regarding the Reorganisation of Mykolas Romeris University and Consolidation with Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU)."

Situations when we forget home keys or important documents while rushing to work, or when we have to juggle the appointments around in order to fit in unexpected tasks, such as collecting clothes from dry cleaners, is familiar to everyone. Programmers of Present Connection, a digital services enterprise in Lithuania are developing a unique parcel delivery system, which could be of help in such cases. At the moment ishipit, the platform, which allows anyone to become a courier, is being tested in Bussum, Netherlands.

The most international university in Lithuania, VMU, is expanding its relations with Asian education institutions: at the end of July, VMU signed a cooperation agreement with Korea University, which is not only one of the leaders nationally but also among the top 100 universities of the world. The visiting delegation from South Korea met with VMU representatives and discussed student and teacher exchange, joint study programmes, and cooperation in research projects.

Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) international organisation Women Leadership Network initiated a charity act – they collected used clothes from the University students and staff and donated them to socially deprived families. Around 70 families will be able to receive support from KTU community.

Nowadays, social media is one of the main tools for communication, and a way to obtain and share information. Naturally, the youth are among the most active users: most of them have their profiles on various social networks and social media is an integral part of their everyday life; thus, the youth (14-29 yrs) is the most affected group by the dangers of social networking: disguised advertising, propaganda, fake news, and information creating a distorted perception of reality just to mention a few.
