Kansai Medical University’s President Dr. Koichi Tomoda and Vilnius University’s representative Aistė Gulla signed the Academic Excellence Exchange agreement. The agreement was initiated by the Department of Gastroenterology, Surgery, and Nephro-urology, led by Prof. Kęstutis Strupas. It offers young surgeons and medical students who are interested in surgery the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge in surgery and surgical research.
“We strongly believe that the study of medicine should be shared beyond the limits of national boundaries. This agreement will help to improve healthcare in both countries by teaching the latest techniques to the next generation of surgeons. We look forward to strengthening the ties between our two countries and we will do our utmost to provide support, because medicine has no national boundaries: from Hirakata to the World, from the World to Hirakata”, stated Dr. K. Tomoda, President of the Kansai Medical University.
Starting in 2019, the program will accept two medical students or young surgeons for the exchange each year. The students will spend one month working with some of the top experts in their field at both institutions.
“Our goal is to provide the best surgical training for our medical students and young surgeons. This joint agreement will help Vilnius University to achieve that goal. We look forward to bringing the best practices from the top experts around the world to Lithuania”, Prof. K. Strupas said.
