On 19 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia David Zalkaliani, who is paying an official visit to Vilnius. The meeting focused on important items on bilateral and international agendas, the security situation in the South Caucasus region, and Georgia's integration into the European Union and NATO.

On Thursday, President Gitanas Nausėda held a phone call with Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The President and NATO’s Secretary General discussed the tense security situation in the region and the NATO-Russia Council meeting held in Brussels yesterday.

On 7 January, Foreign Vice-Minister Egidijus Meilūnas attended an extraordinary remote meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers to discuss the security situation in Europe in connection with the deployment of Russian troops near Ukraine and to conduct consultations before the intended contact of NATO and its allies with Russia, including the NATO-Russia Council scheduled for 12 January.

On Friday, President Gitanas Nausėda held a phone call with Israeli President Isaac Herzog. The two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation, migration and border protection issues. The conversation was held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries.

On the evening of 3 January, Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis spoke by telephone with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the Foreign Ministers of the Bucharest Nine (B9) countries.

The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania strongly condemned the Taliban’s violence and other human rights violations against civilians, in particular women, children, minorities, and individuals associated with the previous Afghan government, international organisations and international military missions.
