On Tuesday, President Gitanas Nausėda congratulated President Sauli Niinistö of Finland on officially joining NATO.

On 3 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with Hans Leijtens, the new Executive Director of the European Border and Coastguard Agency - Frontex.

On Monday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with President Salome Zourabichvili of Georgia, who is on an official visit to Lithuania. The two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation, support for Euro-Atlantic and European integration, security challenges in the region, and Russia’s war in Ukraine.

On Wednesday, President Gitanas Nausėda took part in a virtual Summit for Democracy initiated by the President of the United States, Joe Biden.

The Civil Liberties Committee endorsed on Tuesday a new approach to manage asylum and migration flows into the EU and specific rules to tackle crises.

“Military power is necessary as an expression of deterrence and defence because we don’t know what our enemy is going to do,” underscored former U.S. Secretary of Defense Dr. Mark T. Esper while in attendance at the Baltic Military Conference on March 23–24. One of the leading security and defence conferences pulled together scholars, diplomats and the military for a joint debate on the security situation in the eastern flank of NATO. Held ahead of the oncoming NATO Summit in Vilnius, the Conference focused on the key topics of the military perspective on reinforcing NATO’s deterrence and defence posture.

Lithuania is a vital United States’ Ally who is a role model by the way it lives up to the NATO collective security and defence commitments: these are the words the 27th U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper uses to introduce our country when he speaks of it. According to him, the Baltic states are appreciated for their credibility and commitment to work to ensure the security in the region – and it is more and more visible in the context of the Russian war in Ukraine.

“We need to strengthen our solidarity with Ukraine, and boost Europe’s investments and competitiveness”, said European Parliament President Roberta Metsola at the European Council.

On March 23 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas will meet with Minister of Defence of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece on a formal visit to Vilnius.

On Tuesday, President Gitanas Nausėda participated in the European Council preparatory video conference with President of the European Council Charles Michel.
