The President underlined that Lithuania and Spain are strong allies, sharing common European values and consistent focus on the importance of transatlantic ties. “We highly value Spain’s significant contribution to reinforcing the security of Lithuania and the eastern flank of the Alliance through deployments to NATO’s air policing mission and the enhanced presence battlegroup in our region. It is delightful to know that Spanish Air Force pilots will assume their 11th rotation in Lithuania next April, the President wrote in his message of congratulations.
Gitanas Nausėda expressed his appreciation that the two countries stand in the same line on supporting Ukraine, with Spain giving priority to Ukraine in its EU Presidency agenda. The President voiced his firm belief that extensive assistance to Ukraine will continue until its victory.
Gitanas Nausėda also thanked King Felipe VI for the warm welcome extended in Madrid this past May as well as for active and effective bilateral cooperation in the run-up to and during the NATO Summit in Vilnius. “It was a great pleasure to meet with you on the sidelines of last week’s informal European Council meeting in Granada,” the President wrote.
He wished members of the Royal Family and the people of Spain continued success and prosperity.
