The meetings discussed the Euro-integration process in Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, progress on reforms and implementation of the European Commission’s recommendations. During the meetings, Gitanas Nausėda stressed that Lithuania strongly supports the Euro-integration aspirations of all three countries and is ready to assist with expert knowledge and to share experience.
“Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia are in Europe. The people of these countries have repeatedly made it clear that they want to live in free, democratic, and prosperous countries, that they want to be part of Europe. I believe that if these countries stand together, they will be able to implement the necessary reforms and become full members of the EU,” the President pointed out.
The Lithuanian leader expressed the hope that the progress made by these countries will make it possible to open EU membership negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova as early as this year and to grant candidate status to Georgia.
