A Lithuanian expert team takes part in the world’s largest live-fire exercise, Locked Shields 2023, on April 18-21. The Lithuanian team is formed by Ministry of National Defence, Lithuanian Armed Forces, National Cyber Security Centre, Defence Intelligence and Security Service, Core Center of State Telecommunications, Lithuanian Riflemen Union and National Defence Volunteer Force specialists.

President Gitanas Nausėda and President Vahagn Khachaturyan of Armenia opened the Lithuania-Armenia Business Forum on Wednesday.

On April 10–16 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled three times to patrol the airspace border of the Baltic states , Belarus and the Russian Federation, and identify and escort aircraft of the Russian Federation flying in violation of flight rules in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced that in accordance with NATO security requirements, all flights will be prohibited in the airspace within a 30-km radius of the Litexpo exhibition centre during the NATO Summit in Lithuania on 11-12 July. Flights in Vilnius will only be restricted for a bit more than one day – from 12 noon on 11 July to 2 pm on 12 July.

Lithuania has completed its first project to rebuild Ukraine’s infrastructure. A mobile settlement in Borodyanka has already been handed over to the Ukrainians, where 36 families who have lost their homes will soon move in.

On April 5 the Government approved draft amendments to the Law on Land, Law on Taking of Land for Public Needs to Implement Critical State Infrastructure Projects, and the Law on Mobilization and Host Nation Support proposed by the Ministry of National Defence. It will be passed for consideration at the Seimas on April 6.

The first 30 most active schools participating in the “Vilnius is a School” project have claimed their guide equipment sets at the City of Vilnius. The guide equipment, which will cost a third of a million euros (for 120 for sets) in total, will help users of the project platform to deliver lessons in open spaces conveniently and in a high-quality manner.

The European Commission’s Ignalina Programme Monitoring Mission took place in Vilnius and Visaginas on 27–31 March to assess the decommissioning progress of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP), discuss short and long-term challenges, and visit INPP facilities.
