“We appreciate and welcome the historical decision Germany has made. Boris, my counterpart, has presented the guidelines of permanent stationing a German brigade in Lithuania to the Bundestag today. Our Ministries are fine-tuning deployment details looking to sign the implementation roadmap by the end of the year. Lithuania is committee to put it into practice quickly, therefore military infrastructure development and military area extensions has been in progress for some time already. Lithuania will ensure the best Host Nation Support the German military can get,” said A. Anušauskas.
A. Anušauskas assured B. Pistorius that all public institutions of Lithuania see creation of deployment conditions for the German brigade as a priority.
Ministers also discussed further plans of assistance to Ukraine, training the Ukrainians and the demining coalition for Ukraine.
Germany is one of the key Allies to Lithuania whose contribution to regional security is particularly significant. Among key directions of the Lithuania-German cooperation are not only the German military presence in Lithuania , joint training and joint deployments to international operations but also the German-led European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI) that Lithuania is a member of. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed Wednesday on joint procurement in the framework of the initiative.
