“As Azerbaijan took control of Nagorno-Karabakh by military means, more than 100 thousand people have been forced from their homes. The Armenians of Karabakh fled to Armenia. The influx of refugees is another challenge facing Armenia’s democratic Government, which seeks to normalise relations with its neighbours, diversifying its trade and security partnerships under increasing Russian pressure and hybrid attacks. We strongly support Armenia’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and the chosen path of democratic development. We call on the EU and its member states to step up support and deepen relations with Armenia,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis.
Landsbergis continues to call on Azerbaijan and Armenia to focus on negotiations on a comprehensive peace agreement seeking the sovereignty of the countries of the South Caucasus and lasting sustainable peace in the region.
Funds from Lithuania’s Government reserve will be transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Government also provided humanitarian aid sending items requested by Armenia.
