Every year 430,000 Europeans die prematurely due to air pollution. One of the main sources is road vehicles emitting nitrogen oxides (NOx), including poisonous nitrogen dioxide. Following the Volkswagen scandal, in which the company admitted cheating emission test in the US, Parliament and the Council are considering to update existing emission rules to ensure tests are closer to real driving conditions.

A law to revamp the European Employment Services (EURES) network with an EU-wide database of job seekers and vacancies was approved by Parliament on Thursday. The aim is to help fight unemployment by better matching labour market supply and demand. Updated rules, already agreed with the Council, will also pay more attention to cross-border regions and young people.

The amount of Russian capital in Lithuania has decreased fourfold, to 0.5 billion euros, in particular due to Gazprom's withdrawal from the country, but the number of Russian-owned companies has remained broadly unchanged as compared to the pre-crisis period, at approximately 3,000.

On February 15 approx. 100 soldiers assigned to C (Cobra) Battery, Field Artillery Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Division, U.S. Army, arrived for joint training and exercises in Lithuania. The new shift will take part in joint combat training and exercises with soldiers of the Lithuanian Land Force till April according to the training schedule. The U.S troops brought along their vehicles and weaponry: M777 155mm field artillery guns, armoured ATVs, trucks, etc.

Lithuania's top 500 taxpayers in 2015 contributed a total of 3.803 billion euros in taxes to the state's coffers, up by 255 million euros, or 7.2%, from 3.548 billion euros in 2014, the State Tax Inspectorate said on February 15h.
