On 18 December Lithuania’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Raimonda Murmokaitė, deposited the instrument of ratification for the Arms Trade Treaty that will enter into force on 24 December. “Lithuania is very happy to join a constantly increasing number of countries that ratified the Arms Trade Treaty. We are particularly glad to join before it enters into force”, said Lithuania’s Permanent Representative. In an annual press conference held on 18 December 2014, Linas Linkevičius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, identified deepening of relations with EU Eastern partners, consistent support to Ukraine, active membership of the UN Security Council and economic diplomacy efforts as priority activities in 2014. On the basis of the Constitution, and having regard to the decree of the President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite, the Seimas has ratified the Treaty establishing the European Stability Mechanism signed by the euro area countries in Brussels in 2012 and amended in 2014, and the documents relating thereto. This Law received 82 votes in favour, with 1 vote against and 1 abstention. President Dalia Grybauskaitė is attending a European Council meeting. The focus of the meeting is on the economic situation in the European Union and measures to foster economic growth and investments. |
