On 11 August 2016, Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Cecilia Barbro Ruthström-Ruin, outgoing Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Lithuania.

On 11 August, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Ukraine – Linas Linkevičius and Pavlo Klimkin – had a telephone conversation to discuss the situation in eastern Ukraine and yesterday’s accusations by Russia that Ukraine had allegedly attempted to invade Crimea four days before and had allegedly killed two Russian officers.

On 10 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus Andreas Zenonos, who resides in Warsaw. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister thanked the Ambassador for his personal contribution to the development of friendly bilateral relations and expressed his expectation that both countries would continue to promote cooperation based on common values and solidarity.

On 8 August, the new Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Andrius Krivas presented his letters of credence to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva Michael Møller.

On 8 August at the Klaipėda State Seaport, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius welcomed the Training Squadron vessels of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF): Kashima, Asagiri and Setoyuki. The ships visited the country to mark the 25th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Japan.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė is taking part in the official events of the 31st Summer Olympic Games. The President together with world leaders attended an official reception hosted by Brazil’s Vice-President who is currently the country’s Acting President.

On August 2 a Lithuanian officer was deployed to the European Union Naval Force Mediterranean operation Sophia. The officer will join the Lithuanian representative who had been deployed in June to serve aboard Giuseppe Garibaldi, a light aircraft career of the Italian Navy. Both Lithuanian officers will serve until the end of the year. Lithuania also contributes one officer to Sophia operational headquarters in Rome (Italy).

On 1 August 2016, on behalf of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and on her own behalf, Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, extended her congratulations to Pío Garcia-Escudero Marquez, Speaker of the Senate of the Kingdom of Spain, and Ana Pastor Julián, Speaker of the Congress of Deputies of the Kingdom of Spain, on the assumption of their responsible offices.

Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation “Rosatom” does not earn confidence by hiding or trying to understate the incidents at the Astravets nuclear power plant (NPP) that is being built in Belarus, Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius said to BNS news agency on 1 August.
