The possibility has made the news in Estonia, which will accommodate the central headquarters of the merged Nordea-DNB bank. Representatives of the Polish bank, which purchased Nordea's operations in Poland for 694 mln euros in 2013, say that the bank plans new acquisitions abroad, which is listed in the new strategy presented last week. Lithuanian experts believe it would be a logical step.
"It would make a lot of sense, as the bank has already purchased Nordea in Poland," 15min.lt cited a source in Estonia.
"PKO has just approved a new strategy. It envisages expanding the business model abroad, thus supporting the interests of our clients," the news portal cited Izabela Swiderek-Kowalczyk, PKO's corporate communications chief, as saying.
Merger of DNB and Nordea operations in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will result in the second-largest bank in the Baltic states. The process should be completed in the second half of 2017.
A Vilnius branch of Poland's Kredyt Bank operated in Lithuania until it was purchased by Nordea in 2004.
