On Friday, July 2, President Gitanas Nausėda is welcoming Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, on her visit to Lithuania.

President Gitanas Nausėda met with Lithuanian ambassadors residing in foreign countries and discussed foreign policy topicalities and priorities. Discussions covered EU and NATO related matters, security situation in the region, and Lithuania’s objectives in the implementation of the Eastern Partnership initiative.

On Monday, 28 June, an international conference “Information Accessibility for People with Disabilities” was held at the Column Hall of the Presidential Palace.

The Commission has today adopted two adequacy decisions for the United Kingdom - one under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the other for the Law Enforcement Directive. Personal data can now flow freely from the European Union to the United Kingdom where it benefits from an essentially equivalent level of protection to that guaranteed under EU law. The adequacy decisions also facilitate the correct implementation of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, which foresees the exchange of personal information, for example for cooperation on judicial matters. Both adequacy decisions include strong safeguards in case of future divergence such as a ‘sunset clause', which limits the duration of adequacy to four years.

In a report adopted on Thursday, Parliament welcomes Bosnia and Herzegovina’s commitment to advancing on its EU path, but demands further substantial reforms.

On 3 July, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Toshimitsu Motegi will be paying a working visit to Lithuania. During the visit, the Foreign Minister of Japan will hold a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis. Delegations of Lithuania and Japan will discuss bilateral relations, cooperation within international organisations, regional and international issues.

The Commission announced €20 million in humanitarian funding to be provided in Algeria, Egypt and Libya. The funding will support the most vulnerable people affected by the region's political and protracted crises; the over four-decade-long Sahrawi refugee crisis in Algeria, the volatile Libyan crisis, and the refugees and asylum seekers in Egypt.
