Parliament passed three resolutions on Thursday, calling on the Pakistani government to review its blasphemy laws; condemning atrocities by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq; and calling for action against the "wartime rhetoric" and hate speech of provisionally released Serbian war crimes suspect Vojislav Šešelj.

The U.S. Army plans to deploy about 150 tanks and armored vehicles to NATO countries next year and some of the heavy armor may be stationed in Eastern Europe, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, Commander of U.S. Army Europe, said on Tuesday.

Safeguarding human dignity was a key theme of the formal address delivered by Pope Francis to Members of the European Parliament on Tuesday. Immigration, protecting the environment, and promoting human rights and democracy were among the topics stressed in a speech that enjoined "Europe to rediscover the best of itself".

The ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA) will meet from 1 to 3 December 2014 in Strasbourg (France) to debate the Ebola virus outbreak and terrorism in Africa. The plenary debates will be preceded over the weekend by meetings of the JPA standing committees and the women's forum.

The EP is not only the EU's only directly-elected institution, but it also does its best to promote democracy outside Europe. This year marks 30 years of European Parliament involvement in election observation. Last year the Parliament sent delegations to observe elections in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Honduras, Jordan, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Nepal, Pakistan, Paraguay and Tajikistan. In recent months MEPs participated in missions to Egypt, Tunisia and Ukraine.

On Monday, November 24, President Dalia Grybauskaitė will go for a working visit to Ukraine. She will meet with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and attend the seventh session of the Council of Presidents of the Republic of Lithuania and Ukraine.

The Resolution on Combating Glorification of Nazism and Other Contemporary Forms of Racism put forward by the Russian Federation was adopted by voting on 21 November 2014 at the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, 115 states voting for, 3 against, and 55 abstaining. Lithuania as well as other EU Member States have abstained in the vote and made a very strong Explanation of Vote.

Pope Francis will pay an official visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday 25 November. He will deliver a formal address to the Members in in the Chamber.
