US-Cuba relations, Venezuela´s situation and the Colombia Peace Process were among the topics debated at the eighth plenary session of the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (Eurolat), which opened on Thursday in Brussels. MEPs and members of Latin America's parliaments are to deliver a political message to the heads of state or government meeting in Brussels on 10-11 June for the European, Latin American and Caribbean Summit (EU-CELAC)

Capping a long and trying day in parliament, the sole remaining candidate for president – Latvian Defense Minister Raimonds Vejonis (Greens/Farmers), in the fifth vote this evening, emerged victorious, with 55 votes putting him over the top.

Following the publication of the blacklist of European politicians and officials, the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, on Tuesday informed the Russian Ambassador to the EU that insofar as the Russian authorities have failed to ensure transparency in their decisions, in line with international law and legal obligations, and allow the targeted individuals the right of defence and of appeal, he considers that it is now justified to take appropriate measures in response.

The Assembly of Members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, the Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland, and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine concluded its work in the Seimas. The sixth session mainly focused on Ukraine and current security challenges. The participants discussed the implementation of the Minsk agreements, ongoing reforms in Ukraine and assistance to this country, as well as the results of the EU Eastern Partnership Summit held in Riga on 21–22 May 2015 and other relevant issues. The session closed with the adoption of the final document, the declaration.

On 31 May, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius officially opened the Consulate General of Lithuania in Los Angeles. The new Consul General is Darius Gaidys.

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius has extended his greetings to new Prime Minister of Finland Juha Sipilä on the formation of the new Government of Finland and his appointment as the Head of Government. In his letter, Prime Minister Butkevičius has emphasized that Lithuania is ready to be a trustworthy partner of Finland and to work closely in pursuit of common goals for the benefit of the two nations.

Tunisia's Prime Minister Habib Essid met the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Human Rights and Security and Defence subcommittees on Thursday to discuss the latest developments in his country. Security challenges, fighting terrorism and tackling migration flows were the key issues raised in the debate.

On May 29, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius chaired a high-level United Nations (UN) Security Council meeting on "Terrorist attacks and threat to international peace and security, " that was organized by Lithuania as President of the UN Security Council for the month of May.
