Parliament condemned IS/Daesh terror attacks on the Palestinian refugee camp in Yarmouk, Syria, the harassment of labour and human rights activists in Algeria and the illegal detention of Ukrainian pilot and MP Nadiya Savchenko in Russia, in three resolutions voted on Thursday.

The EU should do everything possible to prevent further loss of life at sea, e.g. by expanding the mandate of "Triton" operation in the Mediterranean to include "search and rescue operations at EU level", says a resolution voted by Parliament on Wednesday. MEPs also call for a binding quota for distributing asylum seekers among all EU countries, bigger contributions to resettlement programmes, better cooperation with third countries and tougher measures against people smugglers.

Two airplanes of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry were seen departing from Nepal's capital Kathmandu, carrying several Russian, Latvian, and other countries' citizens from the earthquake stricken country, the Russian Embassy to Nepal announced.

On 26 April, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius on his first official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia met with King Salman bin Abdelaziz al-Saud. King Salman emphasized strengthening of bilateral political and economic relations, speeding up of signing of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and the Investment Promotion Agreement, and welcomed the opening of an Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Jeddah, the second-largest city in Saudi Arabia.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius expressed his condolences to the Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala over the tragic earthquake.

At the meeting with China's new Ambassador to Lithuania Wei Ruixing on 23 April in Vilnius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius underlined the importance of promoting business relations, as well as cooperation in the sectors of transport, logistics, finance, education and culture.

At the United Nations Security Council open debate on the Middle East on 21 April, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the UN, Ambassador Raimonda Murmokaitė said that the situation in the region had rarely been more dramatic. The worst humanitarian crisis ever is unfolding and human rights abuses are being committed. The situation is further compounded by the threat of radical extremism and terrorism spreading in the region.

Europe should come up with a common asylum and migration policy that is humane and realistic, Martin Schulz warned EU leaders. The EP President was speaking at the start of an extraordinary European summit dedicated to migration after hundreds of people died in one week trying to cross the Mediterranean. Schulz said: "Our immediate priority must be to save lives at sea."

EU regulators on Wednesday formally charged Russian gas giant Gazprom with abusing its dominant market position in Europe, a move that risks inflaming tensions with the Kremlin.

On April 16, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with Rose Gottemoeller, the United States Under-Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security to discuss European security issues.
