Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, on an official visit to Brazil, presented Lithuania's economic potential at the Federation of the Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP) on 9 April.

The resumption of the Libyan political dialogue in the coming days will be an important step towards a much-needed political agreement on the formation of a government of national unity and a cessation of hostilities in Libya. I call upon all participants to negotiate in good faith and with a spirit of compromise and reconciliation.

Luxembourg has announced that it will contribute €80 million to projects benefiting from finance by the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), which is the core element of the €315 billion Investment Plan for Europe. The contribution will come via its National Promotional Bank Société Nationale de Crédit et d'Investissement (SNCI). Luxembourg is the fifth country to contribute to the Plan even before the European Fund for Strategic Investments has been formally set up, following the lead of Germany, Spain, France and Italy.

The European Union significantly increased its funding in response to the Syria crisis at today's Third International Pledging Conference for Syria in Kuwait. Together, the European Commission and Member States pledged close to € 1.1 billion - double the overall EU pledge at the 2014 Conference. Of this, €500 million in humanitarian aid, early recovery and longer-term stabilisation assistance come from the EU budget, which nearly triples the contribution from last year. EU Member States also increased their pledges compared to 2014.

Around 2,500 redundant workers of the former French road haulage company Mory-Ducros, which closed in 2014, should get EU aid worth €6 million to help them back into work, said Budgets Committee MEPs in a vote on Wednesday. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund aid still needs to be approved by Parliament as a whole and the Council of Ministers.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on 3 April in Vilnius discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation, the implementation of decisions taken at the NATO Summit in Wales, aid to Ukraine, deteriorating situation in Crimea and Tatar minority rights, Turkey's integration into the EU and international security.

Most people would agree that climate change needs to be tackled, but it is less clear where the money needed to do this should come from. MEPs discussed the issue with their national counterparts on Monday 30 March during a hearing on the climate conference that is due to take place in Paris in December this year. National MPs agreed that their work starts now to ensure their governments prepare for the Paris conference.
