WorldOn 25 April in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania Victor Micula to discuss bilateral relations, preparations for the next NATO Summit in Warsaw, the EU’s Eastern Partnership policy, and the situation in Moldova. President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended the signing ceremony of the agreement on climate change at the UN headquarters in New York. The legally binding agreement among 171 states to reduce climate change was reached at the UN conference in Paris last December and signed in New York on Earth Day. Turkey must fulfil all the requirements laid down by the EU in order to be granted visa-free access to the Schengen area, stressed Civil Liberties Committee MEPs in Thursday’s debate on Ankara’s progress in delivering on its visa liberalisation roadmap. Managing the Refugee Crisis: Commission reports on implementation of EU-Turkey Statement2016-04-22, 16:16The Commission has today reported on the implementation of the EU-Turkey Agreement and finds that good progress has been made to operationalise the Statement. Continued efforts and commitments are needed to consolidate this position and carry out sustained return and resettlement operations, given that this aspect of implementation still largely lies ahead. On 18 March 2016, EU Heads of State or Government and Turkey agreed to end the irregular migration from Turkey to the EU and replace it instead with legal channels of resettlement of refugees to the European Union. This new approach has started to deliver results, with a sharp decrease seen in the number of people irregularly crossing the Aegean from Turkey into Greece. Today's report also constitutes the fourth report on the implementation of the EU-Turkey Joint Action Plan of 29 November 2015. On 18 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Marc Ayrault, while participating in the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council. In the meeting, Linkevičius stressed that Lithuania especially appreciated its good bilateral relationship with the country’s strategic partner – France – and was interested in further strengthening cooperation, especially in the fields of security and defence, the development of economic relations and energy. On 18 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius took part in the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg. Foreign Ministers discussed issues related to the Eastern Partnership, migration and Libya. On April 20–21, President Dalia Grybauskaitė will be paying a state visit to Germany. She will meet with German President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel, open the Lithuanian-German business forum for innovation and life sciences and visit the Cecilienhof Palace in Potsdam. On 16 April, Lithuanian Foreign Minister, Linas Linkevičius, who is attending the GLOBSEC 2016 Global Security Forum taking place in Bratislava, met with Slovak Foreign Minister, Miroslav Lajčák, and Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Igor Crnadak, also the former US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright. On 16 April 2016, the EU High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission (HRVP) Federica Mogherini met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran. European Commission representatives present included EU Commissioners Elżbieta Bieńkowska (Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs), Miguel Arias Cañete (Climate Action and Energy), Christos Stylianides (Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management), Violeta Bulc (Transport), Carlos Moedas (Research, Science and Innovation), Karmenu Vella (Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries) and Tibor Navracsics (Education, Culture, Youth and Sport).
