How do people become radicalised and what can be done to prevent it? These were some of the issues dealt with during a debate in the European Parliament on 19 April which Sakharov Prize Laureate Taslima Nasreen, MEP Syed Kamall and journalist Rudi Vranckx tried to address. The debate was organised by the Parliament and non-governmental organisation People in Need as part of the One World Film Festival in Brussels. Ways to unleash the full potential of the single market to the benefit of consumers, employees and businesses, in particular start-ups, are proposed in a report voted by Internal Market Committee MEPs on Thursday. Priorities include eliminating unjustified barriers to trade, helping SMEs and start-ups to scale up their activities, reforming VAT rules, developing legislative tools to foster the sharing economy and building a strong culture of compliance and enforcement. The value of investment deals in the segment of commercial real estate in the Lithuanian capital last year was still half of the value of Tallinn and 3-4 times less than the value in capitals of Central and Eastern European countries, Verslo Zinios business daily said. Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports), a state-owned company that manages Lithuania's three international airports, netted a profit of 2.1 million euros in 2015, up by 74% from 2014. |
