The event, to be held at Vilnius Airport on 21st September, will be hosted by the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Lithuanian Airports. Viciunai Group, a company owned by Visvaldas Matijosaitis, the mayor of Lithuania's second-biggest city of Kaunas, has signed a hotel franchise agreement with Hilton Worldwide. The director of a Lithuanian sheep rearing company says that sheep numbers have increased in the country and expects that the spreading of African Swine Fever will force more farmers to switch to sheep raising. Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) informs that in 2015 number of births grew in all three Baltic states. Compared to 2014, in 2015 the greatest increase in the number of newborn was registered in Lithuania – of 1 106 newborn or 3.6 %, whereas in Estonia the increase accounted for 356 newborn or 2.6 % and in Latvia – for 233 newborn or 1.1 %. Japan Maritime Self Defense Force Training Squadron will conduct a friendly visit to Lithuania2016-08-08, 12:25On August 8-11 the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force Training Squadron will conduct a friendly port visit to Klaipėda as Lithuania and Japan marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations and further develops bilateral defence cooperation. The Training Squadron commanded by Rear Admiral Hidetoshi Iwasaki includes three ships and a crew of roughly 750 members of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF). This will be the first visit of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force Training Squadron in Lithuania. In early autumn this year Vilnius airport is to welcome another new development - a new direct route to the largest city in western Ukraine - Lviv. These flights are to be launched as of 16 September this year. They shall be performed throughout the year three times a week. On August 2 rotational troops from Poland deployed in Lithuania for joint exercises and training. Roughly 130 Polish soldiers deployed from the 7th Mounted Rifle Battalion, 17th Mechanised Brigade, Polish Land Force. Through the first week of training they will be stationed at Duke Vaidotas Mechanised Infantry Battalion in Rukla. Later the troops will move to Alytus to train in Exercise Strong Hussar with military personnel of Duchess Birutė Uhlan Battalion. The polish soldiers have been deployed to Lithuania until the end of August. Lithuania this year ranks tenth in the world in the number of planned jobs from foreign direct investment (FDI) per million inhabitants, up from 18th place last year, according to the IBM Global Location Trends 2016 report. First shots to be fired from self-propelled PzH 2000 howitzers in Lithuania at Exercise Flaming Thunder 20162016-08-02, 09:56On August 2 the Lithuanian Armed Forces will fire the first shots from the self-propelled PzH 2000 howitzers at home, in the Brigadier General Povilas Plechavičius Training Area (Klaipėda distr.). Over a thousand of participants will carry out indirect fire tasks at Exercise Flaming thunder 2016 from 1 to 12 August I three locations: BG Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė, BG Povilas Plechavičius Training Area in Kairiai, and in the Gaižiūnai Training Area. |
