Electricity consumption in Lithuania increased by 5.6% in the first half of this year compared with same period last year to reach 4.5 bln kilowatt-hours (kWh), Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius (Energy Distribution Operator, or ESO) said.

The euro area (EA19) seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 10.1% in June 2016, stable compared to May 2016 and down from 11.0% in June 2015.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is concerned about the piece of information in the Belarusian press about another possible incident in the Astravets nuclear power plant (NPP) on 10 July 2016. After a record-breaking year of 2015 when Lithuanian Airports serviced 4.2 million passengers and operated 50,000 flights, Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga airports have no intention to stop. The 6-month statistics show that over the period from January through to June, Lithuanian Airports already serviced 2.2 million passengers, i.e. 14.6 percent more than over the same period last year. The number of flights over the same period also grew by 4.2 percent.

On 20 July Vilnius Airport served its two-millionth passenger - compared to the previous year, this milestone in passenger traffic was achieved almost a month earlier. The airport served one million travellers at the end of April; the threshold of two million passengers was reached in less than three months.

In preparation for synchronization of the electricity networks of the Baltic states and continental Europe, Lithuania's electricity transmission system operator Litgrid has announced a tender for a study of the second interconnection with Poland, LitPol Link.
