The funding could be allotted from the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund.
At the moment, EU member states get EUR 6,000 per every asylum seeker they take.
The Commission also proposes changes to the EU relocation rules so the EU would have more say on relocation of asylum seekers.
The annual EU relocation schemes will define geographical priorities that will serve as the basis for relocation of persons. The Commission will also decide the maximum number of persons to be relocated in the coming year based on member states' contribution to the relocation process in the given year, and the criteria for determining countries from which asylum seekers have to be relocated to other member states.
