Congratulating the passengers, the director of Vilnius Airport Artūras Stankevičius paid attention to the symbolism of the date – we welcome the thirty-millionth passenger of Vilnius Airport on the 30th day of the month.
“I get a great feeling when I realise the scope of this number - thirty million. It is an indication that statistically, each resident of Lithuania flew through the main air gateway of Lithuania at least ten times,” noted the director.
According to Artūras Stankevičius, during these 25 years the airport changed, expanded and grew up, whereas the merger of Lithuanian airports and their joint development strategy were yet another step towards success - the number of flights from and to Vilnius is growing; the passenger traffic shows a more than 10% year-to-year increase.
On the occasion of arrival of anniversary passengers, all passengers waiting for their flight in the waiting hall of Vilnius Airport and arriving in Lithuania will for one week have a chance to enjoy the view of impressive flower compositions designed to celebrate this event.
“We are happy to have an opportunity to contribute to the formation of the image of Vilnius as the freshest European destination and to present the works of botanists and florists awarded in a number of international competitions,” said Nerijus Jurkonis, Chairperson of Association of Botanical Gardens of Lithuanian Universities and Director of Kaunas Botanical Garden of Vytautas Magnus University.
Last year 3.3 million passengers stepped through the main gate of Vilnius Airport. During the past five months the country's main air gateway saw off and met 15% more passengers compared to 2015 (nearly 1.4 million in 2016; 1.2 million passengers in 2015).
