The Government has decided today that the transit of persons returning to their country of residence through the territory of the Republic of Lithuania without a necessary stop, in formed groups of persons or vehicles with ensured compulsory escort (convoy) of these groups from the entry into the Republic of Lithuania to the international border crossing points will be allowed until the end of the quarantine, i.e. 13 April 2020, 24:00.

The Commission issued new practical advice on how to implement its Guidelines for border management, in order to keep freight moving across the EU during the current pandemic. To ensure that EU-wide supply chains continue to operate, Member States are requested to designate, without delay, all the relevant internal border-crossing points on the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) as ‘green lane' border crossings. The green lane border crossings should be open to all freight vehicles, whatever goods they are carrying. Crossing the border, including any checks and health screening, should not take more than 15 minutes.

Crisis-response measures should be combined with a long-term commitment to EU research programmes, says Research MEP.

This Thursday the Parliament is holding a special plenary session so that the first measures to help people and business deal with the impact of the corona outbreak can be approved.

President Gitanas Nausėda discussed the spread of corona virus (COVID-19) and the measures aimed to prevent the spread during a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis on Friday.

The European Union will impose an entry ban on travelers from outside the bloc for 30 days to battle the spread of the coronavirus, European leaders decided on Tuesday.

“We understand the decision of the United States that was made on the basis of assessment of the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak. All the countries, including Lithuania, are currently working to mitigate every risk related to the spread of the coronavirus; military personnel are actively deployed to assist other institutions countering the spread. I am confident that the modification of military exercises is just a rational measure responding to temporary circumstances the same way all COVID-19-related decisions are, and our bilateral cooperation with the U.S. will be regenerated to full force as soon as the coronavirus has been contained,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis said after the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) announced the decision to modify the size and scope of the international Exercise Defence –Europe 20 earlier on 16 March.

The Foreign Ministers of Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia and the State Secretary of Norway discussed over the video conference today the response to the situation caused by the spread of COVID-19 corona virus.
