Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has met with Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki at the Kalvarija-Budzisko border crossing point, and has discussed cooperation between Lithuania and Poland in the context of COVID-19, border opening, bilateral relations, security, defence, and other matters.

On 10th June the Lithuanian Cabinet meeting has discussed Lithuania’s position on the Multiannual Financial Framework of the European Union and the European Economic Recovery Plan. Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis called for the negotiations on EU funding to ensure that the criteria for the use of funds are objective and in line with Lithuania’s future economic development priorities.

Today, Prime Minister of Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis and Prime Ministers of Latvia and Estonia have discussed the key Baltic transport and energy projects and negotiations on the non-purchase of electricity from the unsafe nuclear power plant Astravyets. European Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean took part in the videoconference meeting as well.

The President and the Vice President of the European Commission discussed economic development scenarios and the response to the crisis.

MEPs will vote on recommendations for the ongoing EU-UK negotiations, rules in the road transport sector and the classification of Covid-19.

Today Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki have discussed in a videoconference the opening of borders between the two countries, synchronization, and non-purchase of electricity from the unsafe nuclear power plant in Astravyets.

The 2021 budget priorities should be to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak and support the recovery, building on the Green Deal and digital transformation.

President Gitanas Nausėda responded to the letter from President Andrzej Duda of Poland and expressed his views on possible joint action to tackle the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Union’s agenda and cooperation with a view to achieving common objectives in the Community, as well as security, geopolitical and economic situation in the region.

The Office of the Government has held a video conference ‘COVID-19: Lithuania’s Response’, which was attended by representatives from more than 80 countries, including ambassadors accredited to Lithuania and residing in Lithuania, heads of diplomatic missions and consular posts, and of the representative offices of international organisations based in Lithuania. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Government were prompted to hold this video conference by the marked increase in the international interest in Lithuania’s best practices in combating the coronavirus, and particularly the efforts that helped the three Baltic states–– Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia––to early reopen their mutual borders.

On May 18 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis met with his Latvian and Estonian counterparts via a video teleconference to discuss implications of the COVID-19 situation on defence capabilities and readiness, as well as NATO and European Union agendas, and the joint Baltic projects in the area of defence.
