On June 17 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis took part in the video teleconference NATO Defence Ministers meeting which focused on measures for further fortifying deterrence and defence, and NATO operations and missions in Afghanistan and Iraq.

A post-crisis Lithuania will have to live within its means, President Gitanas Nauseda said, having initiated or supported additional payouts to pensioners and children and increasing income of working people.

On June 16 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis discussed stronger operational engagement, further implementation of EU initiatives, mobilisation of financial and other instruments, at a distance meeting with European Union Ministers of Defence.

President Gitanas Nausėda took part in a video conference of leaders of the EU member states and the Eastern Partnership countries to discuss priorities and directions of the EU Eastern Partnership policy. The leaders of the EU institutions, the member states and the heads of the Eastern Partnership countries participated in the video conference.

Parliament urges the Council to “promptly come forward with a position on the format and organisation of the Conference” for citizens’ voices to be heard.

President Sassoli led a minute of silence in memory of George Floyd and all victims of violence and discrimination, at the opening of the part session in Brussels.

In preparation for the negotiations in the European Council on the EU's multiannual financial framework on June 19, President Gitanas Nausėda had a telephone conversation with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. The two leaders also discussed energy security and nuclear security issues.

“U.S. battalion’s deployment in Lithuania and joint exercises with Lithuanian and the NATO enhanced Forward Presence colleagues are the best means of deterrence in these uncertain times,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis said thanking and biding farewell to the U.S. cavalry battalion at the ceremony of end of rotation in Lithuania.

On 11 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius took part in an informal video conference that brought together the EU and Eastern Partnership (EaP) Foreign Affairs Ministers, and provided an opportunity to discuss achievements and future challenges of the Eastern Partnership.

On 15 June, a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Poland will take place in Vilnius. The meeting will focus on cooperation and coordination of actions to further ease restrictions related to COVID-19, and on the inclusion of Poland into the Baltic free travel bubble.
