Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė has met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki and has discussed bilateral cooperation and strategic partnership.

MEPs agreed their position on a Covid-19 travel certificate and approved the EU-UK trade and cooperation agreement as well as major investment programmes.

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has had a remote meeting with European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton, and has discussed Lithuania’s prospects for contributing to the EU’s efforts to boost COVID-19 vaccine production.

President Gitanas Nausėda and First Lady Diana Nausėdienė are leaving for Poland where they will participate in the celebrations marking the 230th anniversary of the 3 May Constitution.

On April 23 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas paid a visit to Riga where he met with his Latvian counterpart, Minister of Defence Artis Pabriks. The Ministers discussed the Baltic cooperation and coordination of actions in NATO and EU formats. When addressing regional security, they discussed the Russian provocations on the Ukrainian border and in the annexed Crimea, and the strategic partnership of Russia and Belarus.

MEPs will vote on EU investment programmes, future EU-UK relations and plans for a Digital Green Certificate during the plenary session on 26-29 April.

The new EU Climate Law increases the EU’s 2030 emissions reductions target from 40% to at least 55% while boosting the contribution from removals that can bring the target to 57%.

On April 23 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas will be conducting a formal visit to Latvia to meet with Minister of Defence of Latvia Artis Pabriks. Ministers will discuss the Baltic security and defence cooperation, security situation in the region, cooperation with the U.S.

President Gitanas Nausėda met with Chief of Defense Lt Gen Valdemaras Rupšys and commanders of NATO and U.S. units in Lithuania. The meeting focused on reviewing activity objectives and results of NATO missions, their interoperability with the Lithuanian Armed Forces, as well as civilian and foreign mission groups in the Baltic States.
