The Seimas will convene for the third (autumn) session on Friday, 10 September 2021, at 10 a.m. for the envisaged submission of a draft work programme of the session at the first sitting. The work of the autumn session of the Seimas will be presented by Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, while Ingrida Šimonytė, Prime Minister, will present the bills submitted by the Government.

On Tuesday, Chancellor of the Government Giedrė Balčytytė has participated in the Tallinn Digital Summit and shared Lithuania’s best practices in the field of the digital agenda.

The European Citizens’ Panels will kick off their deliberations with the first 200-citizen meeting between 17 and 19 September in Strasbourg.

On Monday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Zbigniew Rau, who is on a visit to Lithuania. The focus of the meeting was on managing illegal migration and matters of regional security.

On Saturday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas. The focus of the meeting was on migration, EU border protection, and the management of the pandemic.

On 2 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis discussed the situation in Afghanistan at an informal meeting of EU foreign affairs ministers (Gymnich) in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana together with other foreign affairs ministers of the European Union and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. The meeting discussed tense security and political situation in Afghanistan, a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation, as well as security and migration threats facing the whole region.

On Thursday, 2 September, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė met with Prime Minister of the Italian Republic Mario Draghi in Rome to discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations and economic cooperation, security, the situation in Afghanistan, Belarus and Russia, also the European Union’s relations with China. The Prime Ministers focussed on the irregular migration and the situation on the Lithuania-Belarus border.

On 31 August – 1 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Arnoldas Pranckevičius visited Finland, where he attended the Nordic–Baltic Eight (NB8) State Secretaries' meeting and met with Finland's Minister for European Affairs Tytti Tuppurainen, the Permanent State Secretary Matti Anttonen, and the Member of the Parliament of Finland, Chair of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference Sakari Puisto.

On Tuesday, President Gitanas Nausėda had a telephone conversation with the newly elected President of Estonia, Alar Karis.

MEPs will discuss the situation in Afghanistan, the state of the rule of law in the EU as well as the delay in proposals for new sources of revenue for the EU.
