During their telephone conversation, the President emphasized that the current migratory pressure on Lithuania was a hybrid attack waged by the Belarusian regime against Lithuania and the European Union, with migrants used as a tool for political manipulation and with propaganda and disinformation as active measures of deception. Gitanas Nausėda thanked the President of Ukraine for supplying Lithuania with 100 km of concertina wire to build physical fencing.
The President underscored the intensifying persecution of Belarusian anti-regime opponents and civil society activists, even outside Belarus, and the need to consolidate the Belarusian diaspora. He expressed hope that the Ukrainian law enforcement would determine the actual circumstances of the murder of Belarusian activist Vitaly Shishov.
The two leaders also discussed the Lithuanian President’s visit to Ukraine next week to attend the inauguration of the Crimean Platform and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
