On Thursday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Suwałki to discuss the security situation on the border, the threats posed by the presence of the Wagner group in Belarus, the likelihood of provocations and the readiness to counter them.

On 1 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis bade farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of the United States of America to Lithuania Robert Stuart Gilchrist.

August 1, Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas met with Ambassador of the United States to Lithuania HE Robert Gilchrist whose tenure is ending, Minister thanked him for the support in strengthening the bilateral Lithuania-U.S. defence cooperation.

Thursday next Defence Attaché of Canada Col Robert Foster was accredited to Lithuania at a ceremony at the Ministry of National Defence. He was wished every success in contributing to elevate the Lithuanian-Canadian military cooperation to a new level.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, together with Marius Skuodis, Minister of Transport and Communications, and Kęstutis Navickas, Minister of Agriculture, have addressed the leaders of the European Commission in a joint letter proposing to strengthen the transport route between Ukraine and the Baltic States to ensure alternative routes for the export of Ukrainian grain and other products.

On July 24 the State Defence Council of Lithuania gathered to consider Lithuania’s triannual plan of military assistance to Ukraine and significant aspects of strengthening the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

On July 20, the Chancellor of the Government met with Jorge Familiar, Vice President and Treasurer at the World Bank, in Washington DC. The bilateral meeting focused on the World Bank’s innovative support instruments being developed in Ukraine as well as Lithuania’s contribution to them.

The Chancellor of the Government, Giedrė Balčytytė, who is continuing her working visit to the United States, met with Ilze Brands Kehris, the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights at the United Nations (UN). During the meeting, the Chancellor highlighted Russia’s systemic crimes in Ukraine and the UN’s role in investigating them and bringing about international justice, as well as preventing new Russian crimes and gross violations of human rights.
