June 19 through 21, Vice Minister of National Defence Greta Monika Tučkutė attended the European Air Defense Conference in Paris organized under the auspices of President of France Emanuel Macron. Vice Minister underscored in her address the importance of air and missile defence in the defence of the Baltic states.

On June 18-20 military personnel assigned to the joint military unit of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine, Great Hetman Konstantyn Ostrozky Brigade (LITPOLUKRBRIG), are on a visit in Lithuania. According to Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas, the Brigade is a significant support to the Ukrainians in the face of the Russian brutality.

On June 16 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas is in attendance at the NATO Defence Ministers’ meeting in Brussels where NATO Allies agreed on a rotational air and missile defence model.

Parliament has adopted the proposal on its composition seeking to increase the number of seats by 11, to a total of 716, ahead of the European elections in June 2024.

On Wednesday, President Gitanas Nausėda participated remotely in a teleconference of the EU leaders on the protection of the EU’s external border, the fight against irregular migration and its instrumentalization. The discussion took place as part of the preparations for the European Council meeting at the end of June.

The EU must strengthen its food security, autonomy and resilience of its farming sector in the light of COVID-19 pandemic, Russia’s war against Ukraine, and climate change.

On Tuesday, MEPs adopted a proposal by the Conference of Presidents (EP President Metsola and political group leaders) for Parliament’s 2024 election-year calendar.

On 7 June 2023, Tony Murphy, President of the European Court of Auditors (ECA) and Laima Andrikienė, ECA Member delegated by Lithuania, discussed the ECA’s priorities for action at a joint meeting between the Seimas Committees on Audit and on European Affairs. Coverage of the work of the ECA and the highlights of the special reports in the pipeline were followed by an exchange of views on the implementation of Lithuania’s national recovery and resilience plan ‘New Generation Lithuania’.

On Thursday, President Gitanas Nausėda held a traditional meeting with the ambassadors of EU member states residing in Lithuania to discuss the most pressing issues on the European agenda ahead of the forthcoming European Council summit.
