PoliticsMEPs will vote on new rules on external border security, discuss the June EU summit and debate the future of Europe with the Polish prime minister during the upcoming plenary session. President Dalia Grybauskaitė is attending the EU summit in Brussels where leaders agreed on further measures to stem illegal migration. The Seimas ratified the agreement on Lithuania’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The Law on Ratification of the Convention on the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Agreement on the Terms of Accession of the Republic of Lithuania to the Convention on the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (draft No XIIIP-2305) was adopted by 111 votes in favour, with no votes against and 1 abstention. President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with EU member state ambassadors accredited to Lithuania to discuss tomorrow’s European Council, Lithuania’s and member states’ position on urgent Community issues, transatlantic relations, and security. If a major cyber incident strikes as soon as in the coming years, it would be responded to by an international cyber response force. A Declaration of Intent signed on development of the Lithuanian-initiated EU Cyber Rapid Response Force teams at a session of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg today has laid a foundation for that. Parliament committees will this week hold a public hearing with Facebook and debate whether EU values are being respected in Hungary. A conference on cultural heritage will also take place. On 19 June, Linas Linkevičius, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with foreign ministers of the Nordic, Baltic and Visegrad countries in Stockholm (Sweden). President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, who arrived on an official visit to Lithuania. The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Lithuania and Ireland, cooperation within the European Union and security issues. The Irish President came to Lithuania together with First Lady Sabina Mary Higgins.
