The Erasmus+ capacity building project “Innovative Mobility Attracting Tools for Latin America, I-MAT” kick-off meeting hosted by the University of Lisbon took place on 1-3 March 2023.

Vilnius University (VU) Research administration unit reminds the academic community of an open call for Research projects implemented by young scientists (funded by the VU Research promotion fund). The call is open until the 20th of March 2023.

Just a few months after the technical creativity hackathon "Rethinking Hardware" roared by, the new edition of it returns to the Vilnius Gediminas technical university (VILNIUS TECH) Creativity and Innovation Center "LinkMenų fabrikas". The startup accelerator "Bridgio Tech Accelerator" and VILNIUS TECH "LinkMenų fabrikas" invite engineering students, startups, technical creativity enthusiasts, and engineers who want to direct their created technologies to achieve the United Nations' sustainable development goals to join the "Rethinking Hardware 2.0", which will take place on March 31 - April 2, 2023.

March 7th, 2023 Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Rector Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė presented the 2022 annual report to the MRU community. She assessed the progress of the University, implementation of strategic goals and set indicators. The Rector thanked MRU employees who achieved the best results and awarded Certificates of Appreciation.

On 1 March, a delegation from Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech), which included the President of the University Prof. Sea-Fue Wang, the Vice President Prof. Chung-Kuang Yang, the Dean of Office of Research and Development Prof. Ho-Chiao Chuang, and the Dean of Office of International Affairs Prof. Tun-Wen Pai, visited VILNIUS TECH. The Director of Science and Technology Division at the Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania Prof. Da-Chuan Cheng also joined the guest delegation.

The University of Minho (UMinho) invites Arqus researchers to attend and participate in the 1st International Conference on Data & Digital Humanities — Text Mining and Multimodal Storytelling, which will be held on 8th, 9th and 10th March at this university as a hybrid event.

The events of the past year have given us a better understanding of how fragile and vulnerable our daily routines are. The ongoing war in Ukraine, earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, and other disasters force people to leave their homes and seek temporary shelter. Although some refugees can find shelter in the homes of the locals, most refugees settle on temporary emergency settlements, SOS towns. They hope to return home or start a fresh life in another country.

In Lithuania, the incidence of dental caries among children is very high. Around 60% of the children who enter school at grade one and 90% percent of school leavers have dental caries. Not all parents understand that they are responsible for their children’s teeth, so the lack of oral hygiene skills originates within the family. It is very important to compensate for this deficiency at least partially through the dentists of educational institutions and the dentists in odontology who are the first to check children’s teeth.

In the 2022/2023 academic year, the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences started an activity aimed at educating students in the field of modern technologies. It is planned as an activity of the ongoing MERIT project, as well as part of the university’s initiative to share knowledge with schools and introduce study opportunities at VILNIUS TECH. According to activity initiator Assoc. Prof. Dr Pavel Stefanovič, "Education on the application of information technologies and innovations is necessary to encourage schoolchildren to be more interested in technologies and their application. Currently, such training is relevant not only for students but also for teachers. This is because the General Education curricula have been updated and not all teachers know how to implement these changes in the teaching process. We hope that the lectures given by our teachers will be interesting, encouraging, and will inspire positive change."

A team of ECIU University students, including a KTU student, have completed an outstanding challenge – they have created a plan to help reduce the carbon footprint (CO2) for a Lithuanian company. The results of the sustainability plan for Scania Lithuania can be used to reduce CO2 emissions for other companies and organisations in the country.
