Vilnius University (VU), National Cancer Institute (NCI) and Vilnius University Hospital Santaros klinikos (VUHSK) signed a cooperation agreement to jointly address issues related to the interests of oncology patients and the development of oncology science and education.

The extremely fast-changing construction sector, influenced by the Internet of Things, building information modelling and digital twins, and other innovations, forces business enterprises and the academic community to constantly improve. Effective application of these new technologies can increase the efficiency of the construction sector, reduce energy consumption in buildings, and ultimately create smart building systems that learn from past data.

Organisations can be lean, agile, or service-oriented, but not all at once, claim the Kaunas University of Technology researchers in a recently published monograph. According to the authors, digitalisation and innovation are the organisational capabilities related to financial revenue growth. The findings are based on empirical research of 500 industrial companies operating in Lithuania.

The latest QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 announced the results of Vilnius University’s (VU) fields of study. VU ranked in three out of five broad subjects. In Arts and Humanities, the University’s position has risen to 364th this year (401–450 in 2022). In Natural (ranked 401–450) and Social (ranked 401–450) sciences, VU has been ranked among the top 450 of the world’s top 1,594 universities for three years in a row now.

Recently, Peter Göranson, Secretary General of NORDTEK (Network of Technical Universities in the Nordic and Baltic countries) visited Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) and met with the Rector Prof. Romualdas Kliukas, Vice-Rector of Strategic Partnership Dr Adas Meškėnas, Director of the International Relations Office Aušra Pelėdienė and Assoc. Over four days, more than a hundred participants, in person and online, worked intensively to find sustainable solutions for three industry-driven challenges. The annual hackathon "JAMWEEK" is organized by the "Design Factory Shenkar" in Israel, and more and more members of the "Design Factory Global Network" (DFGN) join the hackathon each year. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) Creativity and Innovation center "LinkMenų fabrikas" joined this international hackathon for the first time in collaboration with the VILNIUS TECH Department of Environmental Protection and Water Engineering. About 20 fourth-year Environmental Protection Engineering students from VILNIUS TECH worked in international teams with students from other DFGN network universities.

Laboratories, white uniforms, absolute sterility, serious faces, and patients looking at all this with slightly frightened expressions; this is one’s first encounter with the Medical Genetics Centre of Santaros Clinics, which is part of Vilnius University Hospital. This is just a superficial image, however, seen with the eyes of a visitor. After spending a bit more time in the center, they will hear the whirring motors of a variety of equipment such as huge refrigerators filled with samples and a considerable amount of modern equipment having unusual names, but they will also see the warm smiles of the people who work here. This is the daily world of medical genetics. During Medical Genetics Awareness Week, Gabija Mazur, Gabrielė Žukauskaitė, and Karolis Baronas, three VU Faculty of Medicine graduates working as geneticists at Santaros Clinics agreed to talk about the nuances, challenges, and opportunities of this profession.

On Wednesday, March 15 the Council of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) approved all three applicants as candidates to participate in the open election for KTU Rector’s position. Lithuanian citizens living in Lithuania and abroad participate in the competition.

On 15 March, for the first time in Lithuania, the Day of the Rescuers of Lithuanian Jews was commemorated. During the University event, in the Simon Daukantas courtyard, the highest state leaders, politicians, representatives of Lithuanian Jews, ambassadors of Israel, the United States of America, and Germany, VU professors, employees, and students remembered and honoured the names of 1,785 people who saved Jewish lives.
